Using fake British, American accents sounds ridiculous – Funke Akindele

Actress, Funke Akindele Bello, is definitely not happy with Nigerians that go about using fake British and American accents so as to impress.

 

Funke said that it was possible to speak proper English without using a fake accent. She cited South Africans that are proud of speaking English with their accent anywhere they were in the world.

“A lot of us want to be western, you know. We want to sound like British, American and we forget our culture, we forget we are Nigerians and that we have an accent. South Africans are very proud of their accent,” she told HipTV.

 

The pregnant actress added that it looked ridiculous when she saw Nigerians who weren’t even born abroad suddenly acquire accents.
